Discover the world of orchids at Napa’s annual show and sale
Every bloom has a story to tell at the Napa Valley Orchid Society annual show and sale April 25 and 26 at the Napa Senior Activity Center.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. The center is at 1500 Jefferson St., Napa.

Orchids grow on all the continents except Antarctica, and second only to grasses, have the most species on earth. Whether you are buying your first orchid, adding to your collection, looking to learn more about orchid care and culture or just coming to enjoy the displays, the sale will abound with these fascinating plants, and orchid experts will be on hand to provide demonstrations and answer questions.
Many of the members are successful growers who cultivate orchids all year to sell for reasonable prices.
A favorite event at the show is the raffle which will feature a hand-made quilt. In addition to the raffle, a wide variety of items will be for sale at the boutique.
Are you wondering why your orchid doesn’t bloom for you? Experts will discuss basic orchid dos and don’ts and answer questions. They will also demonstrate how to repot a plant.
They ask, however, that visitors don’t bring plants in need of repotting to the sale. Rather, plan to come to their re-potting party on May 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.at the Senior Center. For $5, they will re-pot your orchid with a fresh pot and bark, up to pots 7 inches in diameter.
The society holds its regular meetings on the second Wednesday of the month from 6 to 9PM at the Napa Senior Activity Center. The meetings are free and open to the public and feature speakers who are well known in the orchid world. You don’t have to be a member to attend, however, membership is $20 per year for a family.
