The city spent the better part of last year in discussions with Caltrans regarding policy and oversight of outdoor dining pods, also known as parklets, installed on Lincoln Avenue during the COVID-19 pandemic before the council eventually voted to remove the three pods earlier this year.
The city will pay $2 million to the county to purchase the land and has budgeted an additional $750,000 this year to pay for basic landscaping and upkeep costs.
At its annual Vida OLE! fundraising dinner and auction, the foundation raised $4.1 million for a new primary care hub that will be built on a vacant three-acre parcel on Lincoln Avenue that OLE purchased last year.
