The city of Calistoga’s Park and Recreation Department held its annual Safety Day last Saturday at the Logvy Park parking lot.

Community members of all ages learned about fire, bike and water safety in the interactive environment that featured a variety of booths. Kids were invited to bring their bikes and test their safety skills on an obstacle course before taking part in a police-escorted ride through town.

Children received “safety passports” and collected stickers at each booth. Those who completed their passports were entered into a raffle hosted by the Napa County Bicycle Coalition. Four bikes were raffled off, donated by the California Office of Traffic Safety, and CHP provided free helmets to children.
“We were so grateful to have CHP at the event,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Erin Stroud. “They gave out more than 40 free helmets to kids, which made a huge impact. It was great to see so many children leave with both safety knowledge and proper gear.”

Participating organizations included the Calistoga Fire Department, Calistoga Police Department, California Highway Patrol, UpValley Family Centers, Napa County Bicycle Coalition, Napa Valley Transportation Authority and Song for Charlie. The Rotary Club of Calistoga provided free hot dogs.
