This week in the Tribune, Calistoga Mayor Donald Williams and Vice Mayor Irais Lopez-Ortega said this week they plan to run for reelection this November. Both pulled papers at City Hall on Monday. Council member Lisa Gift, whose term also ends at the end of this year, said she had yet to decide whether she would run for reelection, but was leaning toward seeking a second term.
In other news, Council last week approved a grant that will fund multiple DUI checkpoints in Calistoga. The city has wasted no time putting the grant to use and CPD Lieutenant Andre Charles said this week that the first DUI checkpoint is slated for Saturday, July 27. Also at last week’s council meeting, for the second time in a year, Mayor Williams’ nominations to appoint new members to the Planning Commission were rejected by his colleagues. Williams said he planned to propose a different combination of two of the five applicants at the next meeting on July 30.
Plus, Rep. Mike Thompson stopped by the Calistoga Roastery Tuesday morning to meet with local group Calistoga Can, to share some encouraging words with the cohort, which meets at the cafe every other Tuesday to discuss politics and to write postcards encouraging people across the country to vote.
