This week in the Tribune, we talk with former Police Chief Mitch Celaya and former Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Stepp about the new roles they began this week at City Hall as Assistant City Manager and Deputy City Manager. We also learned that a Fairgrounds Director offer has been extended to a top candidate.
Also, Latina mothers who immigrated to Napa County discuss challenges they faced when moving to the Valley. The women, who are part of a yearlong initiative called On the Verge, are now woking to strengthen and empower their communities though social and political engagement.
And, at this week’s City Council meeting, we learned that the rental of the Great Lawn at the Fairgrounds is likely to be the city’s first official use of the property to generate revenue. Following months of confusion and conversations between the city and Caltrans, Council also discussed the exploration of unchartered waters by directing city staff to look into an “air” lease agreement with the state roads agency that would protect business use of sidewalks on Lincoln Ave. Caltrans has never before granted an air lease for sidewalk use.
Plus, check out photos from last week’s annual Fourth of July parade in Calistoga where thousands braved the triple-digit heat to celebrate the holiday.
