This week in the Tribune, we take a look at the challenges that keep Calistoga’s workforce from being able to live in, and afford homes in town. Latino homeownership rates in Calistoga are disproportionately low — just 17 percent compared to 67 percent among whites, according to city documents. To learn more about the issue, read this week’s paper.

Also, we provide updates on the Monday night pedestrian-vehicle collision that involved a Calistoga resident and an on-duty Calistoga Police Sgt. at the crosswalk intersection of Washington and Berry Streets.

Plus, we talk with two political newcomers who have pulled papers and are considering runs for city council that would challenge incumbents Vice Mayor Irais Lopez-Ortega and Councilmember Lisa Gift for their two seats in November. The nomination period to run for mayor or for city council closes on Friday, Aug. 9.
