The end of one chapter: Highway 29 newsrooms to close, for now

Dear Readers,

Many questions have arisen since the announcement last week by Highway 29’s CEO Marc Hand that he is stepping away from the company on May 31.

While we don’t have answers to all the questions, we can share with you what we do know: Hand has told us that May 22 is the last day Highway 29 will publish the Calistoga Tribune, Yountville Sun, American Canyon Current and Napa County Times. Conéctate, our bilingual newsletter, is also on pause. The staff has been laid off and freelance contracts are cancelled effective May 22.

Is it the end? No. While these publications will go on hiatus, we are thinking of it as the end of one chapter, a necessary pause while we search for answers to the complicated challenge of keeping community news alive and thriving.

We hope to have more information soon and will do our best to keep you informed. If you have questions about subscriptions, please contact Marc Hand, [email protected].

Most of all, we are grateful for the concern and the support from the community.

The Highway 29 team
